Academic and Behavior Interventionist, Lansing, MI

Initiated as a flexible volunteer position that became a full-time paid position that supports teachers instructionally and behaviorally in a Title I charter school

  • Directed Aftercare Program that academically intervenes with 10 kindergarteners and first graders after school

  • 7th Grade Honors’ Team Leader: Led team of four teachers in various content areas to create cross-curricular assignments, provided support in classroom management and literacy elements of curriculum in non-English departments, identified students at risk of failing academically and behaviorally, generated action plans for identified students that led to 100% of students moving to the next grade, and maintained a positive environment for colleagues to share resources which led to better interdisciplinary collaboration

 

  • Developed and implemented Common Core aligned Reading Language Arts curriculum for entire 7th grade of approximately 400 students which led to the school meeting Annual Measurable Objective (AMO) formerly Annual Yearly Progress (AYP)

 

  • Creatively inspired students deemed at-risk to perform academically resulting in a classroom culture that acted as a positive model in the school community

 

10th Grade English Teacher (40-50 hours per week)

 

  • 10th grade English Content Team Time Keeper: Collaborated with Content Team Leader and Department Chair to generate meeting agendas and objectives, assisted in facilitating content area meetings to ensure entire agenda was accomplished

 

  • Provided rigorous writing instruction for students with a wide range of academic competencies

 

  • Tracked students’ reading and writing growth and supported students in tracking their individual progress which resulted in 87% of students meeting their goals

 

African Student Association (ASA) Club Sponsor: Reestablished stigmatized club to ensure cultural diversity in school community; supported executive board and membership in event planning, fundraising, and promoted visibility within the school community; acted as Artistic Director/Coordinator in the production of the schools first culture night: “A Different Side of Africa.” The culture night included fashion, dance, spoken word and vocal performances with authentic African Cuisine. The production had a record attendance of over 600 people and grossed over $2500.
